I like to finish mine off with skewered lemon wheels and frozen cherries! It’s a great way to really show off all the flavors in the cocktail while adding a little special touch at the end.

This easy combination of your favorite red wine mixed with lemony ginger flavor and sparkling soda water makes a perfect summer cocktail, but you could easily serve it throughout the holiday season! The bold red color and hints of ginger spice would make this a delicious sparkling holiday cocktail.

That’s the beauty of the wine spritzer! It’s so versatile, refreshing, and simple. There are so many different ways to build on this easy and classic wine drink. Take for example this delicious watermelon rosemary white wine spritzer! Fresh fruit makes a delicious complement to the white wine and creates a blushing pink spritzer perfect for any occasion.

In this red wine spritzer recipe, we’ll combine equal parts water and sugar with lemon peel and fresh ginger. This will create a quick homemade syrup that will add a little flavor and backbone to the cocktail.

This sparkling cherry lemon ginger wine spritzer is an easy cocktail to make if you’re out there wondering what to mix with red wine for a drink. It’s a simple way to transform and dress up that plain glass of red wine! If you enjoy hot wine drinks, this holiday spiced wine is another cozy option!

Make Simple Syrup For the Red Wine Spritzer Cocktail

To make the fresh lemon ginger syrup, pierce a few ginger slices and lemon peel with a fork. Combine all ingredients in a small sauce pan stirring over the heat until sugar is melted completely into the water. Bring to a high simmer then put the lid on and reduce heat to low. Continue simmering on low for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain and let cool then transfer to an airtight container.

Make A Red Wine Spritzer Cocktail

To make the red wine spritzer cocktail, grab a wine glass or a tall, slender glass. Add a handful of fresh ice cubes to your cocktail glass. Next, add a little bit of the ginger lemon syrup and squeeze in the fresh juice from a lemon wedge being careful to catch any seeds.

Add Your Favorite Dry Red Wine

Now add a splash of your favorite dry red wine to the syrup and fresh lemon juice in the glass.

To make this delicious drink, you’ll want to stick with dry wine since we are adding other ingredients that sweeten already.

Best Wines For a Red Wine Spritzer

Easy and delicious dry red wines for this cocktail might include a fruity Pinot Noir, a dry red blend wine, Merlot, or even Cabernet Sauvignon. Any of these varieties will make the perfect drink. No need to pick up an expensive wine.

We’re gonna dress up the red wine with flavored syrup, carbonated water, lots of ice, and fruit or fresh garnishes. Since we’ll be transforming it into something a bit different, any inexpensive dry bottle of red wine will do!

My Favorite Wines For Easy Wine Drinks

Among my favorites to use in simple wine cocktails like this are La Vieille Ferme Rouge and Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon (although their Merlot works too). If you are, however, pumping these out in batches or entertaining for a crowd, a box of red wine can be easy, budget-friendly, and helpful!

For jobs like this, I like to go with Bota Box Redvolution blend. Fruity and great in cocktails. It’s what I like to use in a few summer drinks too. I’ll use their boxed dry rosé variety in these strawberry watermelon frosé cocktails and their pinot noir in these fun red wine slushies as well.

Top off With Cherry Sparkling Water

Once you pour in the dry red wine, syrup, and fresh lemon juice, give the cocktail a stir with a long bar spoon. Reach down to the bottom of the glass and stir gently. Incorporate the syrup and acidity into the red wine and mix thoroughly.

When mixed, top everything off with sparkling water. You could use your favorite sparkling mineral water, or club soda.

For this red wine drink, I love using San Pellegrino Essenza in the dark cherry and pomegranate flavor. It is sooooo delicious with the red wine! It adds a super refreshing and bubbly fizz while heightening the flavors with elegant fruity notes.

The cherry really complements the red wine quite beautifully.

It’s the same reason I chose to use it in this Devil’s Sunset red wine tequila cocktail! Once you splash in your sparkling water, give the cocktail one more gentle stir.

Garnish Red Wine Cocktail with Fresh Lemon Wheels and Frozen Cherries

I like to finish everything with a few fresh garnishes to dress up this great cocktail and give it a little jazz! To do this, slice a few thin lemon wheels. Grab one of the lemon wheel slices. Place a frozen cherry in the center then hold them together like a little fruit taco.

Push a cocktail pick or skewer through the outside of the little taco shape, through the center of the frozen cherry, and back through the other side of the lemon slice. You should end up with a nice garnish that holds the fruit together in place. Add this to the top of the glass and serve this good cocktail nice and chilled.

Alternatively, you could also just drop in a few thin sliced pieces of fresh ginger and fresh lemon. Tuck them into the side of the glass and serve with little cocktail straws. If you drop in fresh ginger slices, you’ll taste the ginger root in the red wine spritzer cocktail as you sip. It will continue to infuse the drink with light hints of extra flavor as it sits.

Enjoy This Easy Red Wine Spritzer Recipe Any time Of Year!

It’s almost too hard to choose an exact season or reason to serve this red wine spritzer cocktail. It is so versatile. It seems to fit just about every occasion you can imagine.

You could easily serve this red wine spritzer on hot summer days in the summer months due to its effervescent quality and refreshing bubbly finish. You also could serve it in the fall. The refreshing lemon citrus flavors offer a perfect balance to the warming ginger notes in the background.

The colorful crimson and red tones of the cocktail make it a festive red wine drink to serve at Thanksgiving or Christmas during the holiday season. Its simple combination of wine, syrup, and sparkling make it a great complement to foods of all kinds. It’s a great dinner cocktail!
