Rum just loves lime. It brings out the flavor and brightness in everything for a rum cocktail. Consider the most beloved combination of all time: Rum+coconut+lime…Hence the recipe goes: “You put the lime in the coconut...You drink ’em both up.” We will remember this timeless and beloved classic when we ‘put the berries with the lime and we smash ’em both up‘! To make these simple and deliciously fun shots with rum, we have to first muddle the strawberries.
1. Muddle Fresh Strawberries
In a tall glass, pour in the fresh-squeezed lime juice and add fresh strawberries that have been cut in half. Muddle the strawberries until the whole mixture is bright red and fruit is crushed.
2. Add Rum and Simple Syrup
Next, pour in simple syrup and rum. I used Bacardi light rum, but you can certainly splash in your favorite. Alternatively, you could even splash in strawberry rum or infuse your own and then add! Add ice to fill the glass about halfway. You can either do this in a cocktail shaker and just shake, shake, shake, or…
3. Stir To Combine Berrylicious Bacardi Rum Shots
You can stir everything together with a bar spoon. The only difference is if you shake it together, the ice will crush a bit. When you pour the shot you’ll get little icy bits in there that make it icy cold and yummy. Both ways work, both are good!

4. Rim Your Shot Glasses With A Little Pink Sugar
With a lime wedge, rub the rims of your glasses and dip them in a little pink sugar. I just used the pink sanding sugar that came in a Valentine’s Day sprinkles set.
5. Garnish & Serve Your Strawberry Smash Cocktail
Use a cocktail strainer and pour the cocktail into your little shot glasses. Garnish with strawberries slices, if desired. I got a teeny bit fancy and used dried pink rose petals that I saved up from our garden last summer.
Rose Petal Garnish
To make these, just tie together a few fresh roses with some twine and hang them upside down. (This helps the petals to dry with an even, upright shape.) After a few days all the moisture will dry up from the flowers when they are stiff to the touch. Take them down and leave whole for decorating or gently collect the rose petals in a jar to use later. The Best Summery Strawberry Smash Rum Shots
Give or take, it will probably yield either three 2oz shots or six 1 oz shots. As you can see in the picture, my little glasses are mostly full because I divided mine into three 2 oz little fruity shots with rum.
If you ask me, the 2oz pour is definitely the way to go… If you need nice simple and sleek shot glasses, this set of six shot glasses is a classic go-to. Perfect for serving up these easy rum shots at a party with friends (and pretty much a must-have for any basic barware collection).

Try going a little lighter on the rum (or make this with vodka!) by adding 1 and 1/2 oz instead of 2 oz and a little less simple syrup (say 3/4 oz instead of a full oz). Squeeze in the juice from one lime wedge, add ice and shake it up. Pour into a rocks glass and garnish the same way. I would top it off with a little splash of sparkling water (or berry flavored La Croix!) to make it pop and done!

Strawberry Smash Rum Shots
Ingredients
- 2 whole Fresh Strawberries - cut in half – plus more for slicing and garnish
- 1 oz Simple syrup
- 1/2 oz Fresh Lime - for freshly squeezed Lime Juice
- 2 oz Rum - Preferably light rum – I used Bacardi Light Rum
- Pink Sugar - optional for rimming glasses
Instructions
- In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker, drop in strawberries and pour in lime juice. Muddle them together until everything is bright red and berries are crushed.
- Pour in simple syrup and light rum. Fill the container with ice about halfway full. Either stir with a spoon or put the cover on your cocktail shaker and shake to combine until chilled.
- Rub your shot glasses with a little lime wedge and dip them in pink sanding sugar, if desired. Strain cocktail and divide evenly into shot glasses. Garnish with a strawberry slice and rose petal (if available).
