inexpensive cheap valentines day decor ideas

Whether you’re styling up a table with place settings for a romantic dinner, a family dinner, or simply  a casual dinner with some friends, these easy Valentine’s Day decorations can be used to jazz up the center of the table in just minutes.

Set the tone with a colorful red backdrop

To create a festive and colorful red backdrop for the table, I upcycled an old (very long) knit scarf that I had but never used from years ago. The knited texture creates a cozy setting for the table, so it works!

To style something similar, set down a red sequin table runner. You’ll capture the same bold color and sparkly effect.

Alternatively, you could use a red gauze cheesecloth table runner, instead. The flowy cloth works beautifully as well.

Add a Tray to Frame a simple Valentine’s Day centerpiece Decor

To add a little contrast, I brought in a long silver tray. The tray basically acts as a base that will hold everything together to style a centerpiece. You might opt for a more rustic look with this boxy white wooden tray.

To create simple floral centerpieces, grab mason jars. Tie the jars at the top with a bit of red ribbon around the rim.

Next, add simple red flowers. You can go to the floral section of your local grocery store to grab inexpensive red carnation flowers or style with luscious branches of red baby’s breath, red berry branches, or red cherry blossom. You could also use red roses or red chrysanthemums.

Accent the red flowers with a little green foliage, eucalyptus branches, or fern stems.

Add Mason Jars with Flower arrangements in red

To really bring out the flower arrangement and highlight each bottle, I added a few drops of red food coloring to each jar.  It adds another layer of red to our table’s color palette.

It also really highlights that bold red color scheme with just that added small detail. It’s pretty amazing what a few simple mason jars and a bit of red ribbon can do for a table!

If you opt for the artificial florals, you won’t need water in your mason jars. You can fill them instead with cozy jar fairy lights or red vase filler.

Add Candles To your Valentine’s Day Tablescape for ambiance and warmth

To finish, add some candles for warmth and ambiance.  This set of diamond cut red glass votives or these red ginko leaf pattern votives are elegant, but if you like something simple and charming, opt for my favorite, mercury glass votives.

Fill with little tea lights (or flameless flickering lights) to add that simple touch of warmth.

To keep things rustic and cozy, I framed the silver centerpiece tray with a few red glitter winter branches.  It adds a very natural feel to the dinner table (with a hint of glam) and I just love decorating with elements inspired by nature.

keep these valentine’s day table ideas rustic and cozy by adding natural decor elements

It always helps to bring that cozy rustic vibe back to the dining table.  Whether you’re decorating for Easter, Christmas, or setting up a Valentine’s table, it’s always charming to add that natural touch…  Just a few winter branches help to get that natural look flowing back through the table.

Keep place settings simple with white Plates and red napkins

If you’re adding plate settings, I would recommend setting up white tableware using simple white plates. You could then add red linen napkins to contrast the plain white plates.

Tie them with a bit of simple twine or jute string.  Punch a whole in the place cards (if using) and slip them onto the string you use to tie the napkin for a more personal finishing touch. These festive printed placecards are a nice stylish touch.

Alternatively, you can use crisp white napkins. You could accent them with red napkin rings for a pop of color on the plate.

Red is such a fun color to play with. You can continue to give these beautiful table settings your own unique and personal touches as you put them together.

The look doesn’t have to be complicated in order to achieve a beautifully decorated table for that special dinner.  You can keep things easy and simple while still creating an elegant atmosphere with simple elements.

Just a few items help to bring a beautiful touch and charming character to the dining room table. You can style this in minutes so you can get back to enjoying your time and popping some good bubbly!
