These old wood pillar candle holders were passed down to me by my mom and they have so much character with their dark varnish and traditional shape. They were the inspiration for this simple, elegant, and super easy pumpkin centerpiece idea that will really wake up your table for fall.
Use Mesh, Ribbon, or glittering Tulle Fabric For added elegance
You can give fall table decorations a rustic vibe by adding natural elements. Consider adding a burlap table runner or branches and twigs to your pumpkin centerpiece decorations. Then dress things up a bit with the simple addition of taper candles. Gold is my favorite color candle because I feel like it brings an elegant warmth to any look.
For these simple rustic pumpkin table decorations, gather a long piece of burlap fabric. You can lay the fabric across the center of the table. For added color and accent, add some glittery orange mesh, tulle, or wide ribbon.
Use it to tie around the necks of your pillar candle holders. I highly recommend this orange glitter tulle fabric dotted with sparkling gold glitter. This is what I used for my pumpkin centerpiece ideas and it really dressed everything up.
My mesh glitter tulle came in a little roll that I just cut up into long pieces. I’ll take different pieces of the cloth and tie them around each wooden pillar candle holder. This is a quick and easy extra touch that will dress up the candle holder.
It will also give it a pop of fall color. You can use any material or ribbon made of any fabric you like. A deep olive or hunter green would look lovely. Dark orange, rust, and spice colors are always my favorite for fall. Be sure to pick tones that compliment your mood and style!

The first thing to do is lay some burlap down the center of the table. This creates a nice runner type backdrop for the candle holders. Then add some garland or curly vine, or branches as I did here, to give it depth and character.

Next, you’ll want to place your pumpkins on the candle holders and play with settings a little bit! Arrange the pillar candles and move them around the table until you find a combination that you like.
The idea is to really bring that autumn look by using the pillar candle holders as a little stage to display your pumpkins and gourds. They are the star attraction! Use fresh gourds and baby pumpkins from the market or grocery store. Use artificial pumpkins for decorating in varied sizes. Any of these will work to create easy fall table decorations in minutes.
If you have pillar candles of varying heights, you can place them in order from largest to smallest. Alternatively, you might choose to simply mix ’em up as I did here.
