Make A Fresh Sparkling Cherry Spritzer

cherry spritzer

Every summer those gorgeous bags full of cherries (nature’s candy!) pop up at the grocery store and, well, who can resist? After crushing them and pouring them over yogurt with vanilla for my boys or tossing them in my oatmeal…theres always quite a few extra left over. A perfect excuse to whip up a fresh sparkling cherry wine drink which makes the perfect summer cocktail!

Cherry sodas and sparkling water for your cherry spritzer drink

  • For the actual spritzer I just pitted a couple of fresh, sweet red cherries and mashed them with a muddler.
  • I spooned the crushed fruit into a wine glass and splashed in a dash of cherry-flavored soda (I usually keep Sparkling Ice in black cherry on hand) and added ice.
  • You could also use your favorite brand of cherry soda or something like Canada Dry cherry fruit splash.
  • Your favorite brand of flavored soda or cherry flavor sparkling water would do just fine!
  • That’s pretty much it! Once you do that, splash in your favorite sparkling wine or champagne to create a refreshing cherry champagne cocktail.
  • I splashed in some La Marca Prosecco sparkling wine (the dry brut prosecco or the rose prosecco works great).
  • If you don’t have sparkling wine on hand, you can also simply add a dry white wine such as Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc (and top off with a bit of sparkling water. This would also work with the soda and fruit. However, just using the fruit, wine, and sparkling water will result in a more dry (unsweet) cocktail.
  • For the sweeter fruitier version, use cherry soda instead of sparkling water.

There’s nothing better than something simple, satisfying and super easy to make! Just three ingredients for a simple cherry wine drink you can sip on all summer long…

Make this cool refreshing sparkling cherry wine drink when you crave a fresh and fruity sparkling cocktail for summer, like this easy fresh crushed pineapple spritzer, this strawberry watermelon frosé, or this rosemary watermelon fizz!

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, muddle (or crush with a fork) fresh pitted cherries
  • Spoon fruit into the bottom of a wine glass
  • Pour in a bit of cherry-flavored soda
  • Add ice
  • Pour in chilled sparkling wine, prosecco wine, dry white wine, or champagne
  • Garnish with lots of fresh cherries and mint. Enjoy ice cold.

Notes

I used Sparkling Ice soda in Cherry Limeade which gave it a touch of sweetness without the added sugar.  The soda water will give it a dry, crisp finish without any added sweetness. Either one will end up simple and refreshing.
