Instructions

  • Use a zester to collect a teaspoon or so of fresh lemon zest from a fresh lemon.
Add about a teaspoon of white sugar to the lemon zest and combine until a sandy mixture is formed.
  • Swipe a rocks glass with a wedge of lemon and dip into the lemon zest sugar cocktail rim mix.  Set aside.
Now toss 3 fresh basil leaves into the bottom of a cocktail shaker and muddle lightly with a muddler until leaves are bruised and fragrant.
Splash in the 2 oz of plain vodka, 1/2 oz of limoncello liqueur, 1/2 oz of simple syrup, and 1/2 oz of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  • Fill cocktail shaker with ice halfway and shake vigorously until basil, vodka, limoncello, lemon, and simple syrup and completely combined and ice cold.
Pour into a rocks glass and top with a few more cubes of fresh ice.
Garnish with lemon wheels, lemon peel, a lemon twist, or more fresh basil leaves on top.
Finish with a light splash of sparkling water over the top for a crisp refreshing finish.
