The Night’s Watch Halloween Cocktail | A Game of Thrones Cocktail

“Night gathers and now my watch begins…”  Dedicated to the brave men who hold the Wall and guard the realms of men, this dark inky Game of Thrones cocktail is smooth, fruity, and boozy. Serve as an easy red wine, spiced rum, apple cider Halloween cocktail at your festive costume party!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tbsp plus 1 tsp Triple Berry Preserves - good quality - or pure blackberry preserves
  • 2 oz Inky Dry Red Wine - such as Montepulciano D’Abruzzo (otherwise Pinot Noir, Malbec, Merlot or Syrah
  • 1 oz Spiced Rum
  • 1 wedge Fresh Lemon - for squeezing in
  • 1 bottle Hard Apple Cider - the sweeter, fruitier kind such as Angry Orchard - for topping off our cocktail

Instructions
 

  • Melt the berry preserves: scoop out the preserves with your measuring spoon and place in the microwave for 10 to 13 seconds in a small glass bowl. Remove from the microwave and stir with bar spoon immediately after.  Preserves will turn to a saucy consistency with the heat from the glass bowl.  Use a bar spoon or mini spatula to transfer preserves directly to the bottom of your cocktail shaker.
  • Splash in the dry red wine and spiced rum. Now squeeze in the juice from a wedge of lemon. 
  • Top off your cocktail shaker about three quarters of the way with ice and cover.
  • Shake very vigorously for about 10 to 20 seconds so that ice may crush a bit inside the shaker and preserves are well combined with wine, rum, and lemon as you shake.  
  • Place one or two larger size cubes (or one sphere) of frozen cocktail ice in a rocks glass and strain the cocktail into your glass.
  • Top off with sparkling hard cider for a fruity apple flavor and delicious fizzing finish.  
  • Garnish with lavender sprigs, edible chrysanthemums, sage leaves, or skewered blackberries.  Serve immediately, serve cold.
